Looks like it is time for a replacement. It's better to do it now than on the side of the road!

Here is some good news though if you can't afford the $200+ CAD for a new one! I have successfully used VW Rabbit (Fuel Injected) fuel pumps on Vanagons with no problems which should be common and cheap as pocket lint at the local wrecking yard. The only "issue" with the Rabbit fuel pump is there is not a clamp on fitting on the high pressure end like the Vanagon pump has - instead it is a metal "banjo" fitting. Make sure you take this banjo fitting and about 6 to 8" of the metal fuel line after the fitting - the Vanagon hose will clamp over this with no problems.

Good luck!

Thanks to those who have offered advice thus far. I forgot to mention that I crawled underneath and definitely detected that it was the fuel pump doing the buzzing. So, my question is, what next?

David
