In my past experience, only one type sealant works well on this sort of leak. This is a small vial of tiny aluminum flakes, kind of 'powdery', which is poured directly into the cooling system while running and circulating. I ran one of my former Westies (with the exact same crack you describe!) across the US twice with the product in the cooling system, very little coolant loss. Good luck!
