I use a product from FEL-PRO called "Bolt Prep". Use it to coat the bottom of the nut and the thread on the studs. be careful not to fill the nut cavity as this will keep the nut from tightening fully. Also, if the engine has ever been overheated or there are any signs of corrosion at all on the studs, they should be replaced. I just had one snap after doing a valve job. Sucks after the fact. Get to do it again and now I have to remove the cylinder so I can weld a nut on the broken piece to get it out. I have also found "Hylomar" to be an excellent sealant for the rubber gasket. This will even seal slightly pitted heads.

You go to the dealer for the tiny tube of Yellow goop for the head nuts. I'm pretty sure that you won't find it at the FLAPS (though I never tried...)
