Subject: bad idle during warmup
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

While my '84 is warming up it surges when it idles. When I initially start it (stone cold, PA style), it runs at a low RPM- the same RPM it would when up at normal operating temperature. It runs at this low RPM (probably ~750 or so) for about 3-5 minutes than it starts to idle faster, then slower, then faster, etc. Like someone is tapping the accelerator and letting go immediately. I'd say it surges up to about 1500 or so RPMs then immediately drops back down. This happens intermittantly until the engine it all the way up to normal operating temperature.

My first guess is the temp II sensor. Next after that is the air flow meter. Can anyone recommend one way or the other with definite knowledge? Or maybe it's something else? (The idle stabilizer?) I've check both throttle switches, they are fine.

Thanks Bradley Flubacher State College, PA
