The screws are locktighted in. They will release with no real problems, so long as you use the right size screwdriver.

The resistance should gradually change throughout the path. Mine had a spot that was entirely worn through (right about and maybe above idle, as I recall) that measured infinite resistance. Seems fine now, since I moved the circuit board.
