Hi Chad. I had the same problem when I picked up my van from the auction. Distraught, I took it around to the local VW mechanic, who smiled and said "Ah, lifter noise." He produced a small botle of stuff, can't remember the name of it, but it claims to reduce built up desposits and quiet noisy lifters.
