Woody gl4, most listees prefer redline synthetic for easy shifting. Here's a good site for coolant part numbers. http://www.vanagain.com/21lchc.htm I've only had my 84 gl since August and winter is here and my heads are leaking but at least I got the seam rust and the whole thing painted before I ran out of good weather. I've only owned 3 vw buses/vans, a 62 pickup, a 73 bus and now my 84 vanagon. I too wonder what took me so long to find this. Most likely the patience to tackle this exotic engine that's sixteen years old.
