Has anyone measured (or would anyone be willing to) the resistance at the two terminals of their "vent line heating element"? This is a pipe type valve in the 1" return air line from the crankcase (large cylinder w/ hose at the back) to the main intake air boot, at least on my Digifant 87 2.1. This device has a small electrical connector at the top which powers a heating element inside the vent, to "prevent icing during cold engine operation" according to the VW Digifant Pro Training Manual, p.11. It is supposed to measure 4 to 17 ohms across the terminals of the element at 77 F, and mine reads 70 ohms (sounds like a problem to me!). But before I spend $90 on a new one from VW I'd like to get a confirming resistance read from someone else's device that is working. If you have this device, it is very easy to get to, and the wiring connector just pulls off. BTW, if you haven't yet seen it, Darrell Boehler's website (Midwesty) has some very helpful Pro Training Manuals, downloadable, at www.loam.org/vw. Thanks, Darrell! Thanks, Jim Creech 87 Westy GL, 2.1 |
