Hi all,

My 1.6 Diesel Vanagon is having a bit of trouble with the cold starts lately. I've got the feeling it is just the pre-glowing (or what you call it in englsih), because after the light goes out, it takes forever for the start engine to 'catch'. I just keep the ignition key turned, it makes those pre-starting noise for a couple of minutes (!), then it slowly starts to shudder a bit and eventually the engine will respond with some better noises and start. Although it starts eventually I find it a bit scary and I don't want to wear the battery out.

I asked a friend this weekend what it could be and he shared the feeling. He told me I should replace the starter 'spark plugs' (I don't know what they're called), that they're pretty cheap and easy to get in and out. Sounded like a job I could do as a newbie.

But, since I don't want to bother to many people with my van troubles in the weekend and I was parked a long way from where we met, we didn't have a look, but I'd really like to know where I can find them... I can probably figure it out from there.

Can anybody tell me where to look? Or maybe someone has a picture where X markes the spot?

Greeting and thanks,

Peter.
