I believe that shifting may become more difficult if the transmission gear oil level is too high. I recall that the correct level is at, or slightly below, the fill hole (spill level). I fill ours to about a finger tip below (perhaps 1/8 ") -Larry '86 Syncro Doublecab '86 Syncro Westfalia
