I'm glad I didn't buy new tires yet. I knew there were Agilis 61, and Agilis 81. I would have assumed that 51's were below a 61 and therefore subpar for the Vanagon. I now feel that they are the ideal. Speed ratings come in A,B,C,D,E,F,G,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,H,V,W,X,Y,Z. Note the placement of the H. The lowest most passenger get cars is Q. The Agilis 61 and 81 are speed rated at R. The more powerful SA Vanagons (what are they in horsepower again? 135bhp?) come with tires speed rated at S. The Agilis 51's are speed rated T.

Michelins web site states that the speed rating is determines the top speed that the load rating holds up at. The Agilis is also M+S rated. LTX by Michelin are too, but their load rating is under spec for the Vanagon, and you can't get 205 70 R 14, only 195 75 R 14. MTX are the right load rating, and come in 205 70 R 14 but are not M+S rated (and not anywhere in the web site, so I guess they're being phased out???).

Of course to use the Agilis 51's you have to have 15 inch wheels.

And I just have to ask this: Were there ever 15 inch Carat style wheels? _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
