Subject: Goodies from Europe!

My latest container from Europe has arrived and there are a few new items, as well as new supplies of items previously posted but long since sold out. This rundown is a bit long, so please proceed directly to the "delete" key if you're not interested. These are special Listmember deals, so you MUST specify that you are a listmember when ordering.

I now have a small quantity of Stainless Steel connecting pipes for the '86-91 Vanagon exhaust system (never before offered in Stainless). With these, I can now offer an almost completely Stainless Steel exhaust system for the 2-wheel drive '86-up Vanagon, from the heads all the way back to the muffler. The connecting pipe, crossover pipes, and muffler body are stainless; the collector pipe cast iron. Only the tailpipe is non-stainless-steel. The price for the whole kit is $629.95, part number 025 251 053KS . Because of the limited quantity of these stainless connecting pipes, I must reserve them for people who are ordering complete systems. Eventually (probably spring) I will have enough of the stainless connecting pipes to sell separately. (I already sell the Stainless crossover pipes and muffler separately.) I should note that these connecting pipes, being European spec, do not have the test port that the U.S. spec ones have. This should not be much of a problem and is rarely used anyway. Many other vehicle exhaust systems do not have a test port to begin with; garages that need to create one typically drill a small hole for a test wand and then tread a screw or bolt into it when done.

The now-famous Hella Dual Battery Relay Kits are finally back in stock. These are very similar to the optional relay setup found on U.S. Multivan campers and European Westfalias that came with 2 batteries, and work on any Vanagon. Price is $18.95, part number 1738. (Bill Davidson and Beckett Cantrell have been waiting for these with baited breath. :-)

The high-performance Boge lowered Vanagon springs are back as well (item 9878, $360.95 for set of 4). These springs put your van at roughly the same height as a late model Wolfsburg edition (a couple of inches lower than stock Westies and Vanagons) and are made by the original supplier to VW. Fit all Vanagons except Syncro. See positive review on these in the list archives.

I got a limited quantity of Brazilian Cofap shocks for the Vanagon (except Syncro), for $15.95 each. Not as good as KYB/Boge/Bilstein but decent and cheap. Part numbers 251 413 031FOR (front) and 251 513 031FOR (rear).

I have received more of the German Side-Tents, at $379.95, part A0022. I posted these to the list a while back but they sold out very quickly. There is a picture at http://199.217.241.240/partsimages/awning2.JPG . These attach to the side of your van without any permanent modification required, or can be used free-standing. No floor.

I have Genuine VW South African Mudflaps back in stock, item 6881, $94.95 for the set of 4. These are black and have the VW logo on the rear ones in white. They are intended to simply clip on (except for one bolt used on each front one), but on mine I fabricated a simple bracket with angle iron to secure them just a bit more permanently (optional but easy to do). There is a picture of these at http://199.217.241.240/partsimages/mudflapsvgn.JPG

I also have the Genuine VW South African Grill Kits (4 round headlights) and lower wraparound grills back. The Grill Kit for ;80-85 includes the South African 4-headlight grill, a pair of inner driving lights (genuine VW, not the cheesy aftermarket generic ones that some previous kits sold in the U.S. came with), and a new emblem. (You use your existing outer round headlights.) Part number 1495A, $289.95. The '86-91 kit adds a pair of aftermarket H4 round lights for the outer lights (since your '86-91 does not already have them) plus a wiring pigtail to wire them. (You will have to pull a pair of headlight buckets out of a '68-85 junker or fabricate a mount for the outer lights.) Part 1495, $332.50. The lower grill wraps around the sides of the van and uses the stock turn signals (part 2539, $142.50). You can see a picture of both the quad grill kit and the lower wraparound grill at www.busdepot.com/t25side.gif

After a year of unavailability, I have what will probably be my last shot at the Genuine Hella Chrome Hubcaps that sold out so quickly last year. These are the smaller chrome metal ones that leave the edges of the wheel exposed (also used on Busses), not the big plastic ones found on the later Vanagons in the U.S. (although they will fit all years). What makes these unusual compared to the aftermarket Mexican and Taiwanese ones usually sold is that they are much heavier duty, primered on the inside, and less prone to rust out in two weeks than the knockoffs are. At $49.95 for a set of 4 (part # 251 601 151A4) they are only a couple of bucks more than the knockoffs usually sell for.

I also got just 3 sets of genuine VW silver plastic wheel covers. These are very similar (but not identical) to the "flat disk" style wheel covers found on '85-91 U.S. Vanagons, but at 1/3 the price. In fact, the guys here at the shop all seem to think they look sharper than the U.S. spec ones. Apparantly they were sold on some upscale late model Brazilian busses. These are $89.95 for a set of 4 (part number 241 601 149/4), versus $59.95 _each_ for the German equivalent. If your stock wheel covers are ratty looking and you'd like to keep the VW look, you should grab these fast, as they're very nice looking and affordable. I wish I'd have gotten more.

I got some N.O.S. winshield washer nozzles (with gasket), regularly $6.95 each, now $2.50 each (part 211 955 993).

For Diesel owners, I have a original equipment clutch pressure plates, part number 068 141 025D, for $34.95 each, and engine mounts (251 199 201G, now discontinued by VW) for $49.95 each. Both roughly half price. I also still have some Diesel oil filters at $3.99 each (about 1/3 off) in quantities of 6+ (part 068 115 561B).

For Aircooled Vanagon owners, I have genuine German VW oil coolers (part 021 117 021B) for $99.95, and genuine German VW heat exchangers for $349.95/pair (part 071 256 091PR).

Again, be sure to specify your list membership" to get these prices. You can order toll-free at 1-866-BUS-DEPOT, or via the website. (Any items not yet on the website will be added tomorrow.) This is first come, first serve, and prices may go up as quantities near depletion.
