Hi Tobin - I hope this helps.....

In the process of doing my diesel=> 1.8L gas conversion, I installed the pickup from the diesel engine onto the gas oil pump. The only difference in the pumps was the height of the oil pump gears and housing. The 1.8L gas engine had taller oil pump gears, so I used that one.

I did test fit the 1.6D pump in the 1.8 gas block, and that would have fit just fine as well. I did this because I was worried that the vanagon diesel oil pan wouldn't go back on with the taller oil pump housing/gears...but both fit just fine. I used the taller geared gas unit assuming it had a higher pumping capacity.

Hi all, quick question:

I have a 1982 vanagon diesel powered by a 1984 Jetta 1.6L NA diesel motor. I've got a low oil pressure problem, so I'm going to take a flyer and replace the oil pump and main engine bearings in the hope that will resolve the problem or at least buy me some time to save for a rebuild on the engine. I cannot afford a rebuild or engine upgrade at this time.

I've had a very generous offer from a fellow vanagon list listee of a *new* oil pump out of a 1.6L jetta gasoline engine. I'd like to confirm this pump will work in my bus before he goes to the trouble of packing it up and mailing it to me.

Question: will the Jetta gas pump work on my jetta diesel engine? (I know I'll have to swap the oil pick up tubes for use in the Vanagon.)

Thanks!
