Ron, I have Carat bumpers on the front and rear already. I like them. But I
took the side molding (Carat) off because I don't think they're the ideal.
The side molding in your picture would be better. (But I don't like the
front bumper in that picture, and I am sorry to say those wheels are
disgusting looking, at least to me.)
To get what I'm thinking about, look at an early model CRX and compare it
with the last year they were made. The body is the same, the molding on the
side is different. The earlier models had molding that came up high giving
the CRX a two tone look. The later models had just a strip of molding along
the side, and they were much sharper and cleaner looking. You see that in
just about every newer car on the road, BMW for instance. The front and rear
bumpers are in alignment so that you could draw a line from the top of the
front to the top of the back bumper, but the top of the side molding is
lower and not in the same line. In contrast the Carat bumper side molding
forms a line all around along the top of the bumpers and the side molding.
This is not the optimal.
When I had my Vanagon painted I had them fill in the holes that where there
to hold up the Carat side molding, now I just need something like what I see
in your picture. Can you tell me where and how I could get these? I think it
would modernize and enhance my vanagon's visual appeal.
You could add these side moldings to the list of things to update the
Vanagon: E-code lights, bilstein shocks, Rhein 15 inch wheels, P1 Carver
propane heater, clear projectzwo blinkers, new paint, better stereo, water
wetter, Aussie chip or tiico kit, ect ect ect. Personally I think they or
something like them are essential.
