Subject: '82 Adventurewagen to be donated...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I had to make a decision on what to do with my '82 Adventurewagen, and here it is:

I did some end of the year tax planning and it looks like I will benefit from donating the vehicle and taking a write-off against some capital gains I had this year.

So, I am planning to donate my '82 Adventurewagen to one of the legitimate 501c non-profits in the area. I am also motivated to dispose of it in this way because I simply don't have the time or inclination to deal with trying to sell it, nor do I want to continue paying registration and insurance for it since I no longer use it.

Some on the list have expressed interest in it, but most of them are out-of-state and logistically it's not realistic for me to continue to expect to sell it this way. The camper is of limited appeal (even to this audience), is 19 years old, has aesthetic "issues", and I don't really want to be (or feel) responsible to the next owner for the vehicle's condition.

With an 80 hp air-cooled engine pushing around a 3500lb+, permanently high-roofed camper, I just KNOW that the engine currently in it, though in great shape now, will eventually be toast, and I would NOT want to hear about it from whomever I sold it to. That's the down side of a list that is fairly close-knit, as this one is.

So, the donation route seems to be the way to go on this. They apparently take care of all DMV paperwork, and smog or overdue registration is not an issue.

I just wanted to inform anyone still interested in the van that I need to make this decision and execute on it before the end of 2000. My '87 with it's cooling system problem is keeping me plenty occupied; the '82 has to go.

Dan
