Some additives like Water Wetter are good... if you are having cooling problems or running a high performance engine that is overwhelming a stock cooling system. Others symply recharge the anti corrosion additives in old anti freeze. In most cases though coolant additives (and other stuff) put in by the corner garage do their best job at improving the mechanic's profitability. In other words... they are unecessary.
