I would think that the head studs have a few calculations behind their design. Since the strength of material parameters for SS is so different from carbon steel, a SS stud which performs the same as a stock one may be very different, especially when the operating temperature swing is considered. If the results are to be predictable, I think there is a little more to take into consideration than just that the replacement stud is the right length and has the correct thread form on the ends.
