Is it possible or advisable for me, without the sophisticated CO test equipment, to try to adjust idle speed and idle enrichment (which changes CO output)? Bentley outlines how to do this (I know which screws are involved and the theory of what they do). I am wondering if one could tell from only engine sound and rpm at the tach or with a dwell meter if changing the two screw adjustments is helping or making the idle run worse? I live out in the country and don't have to pass an emissions test, but do want efficient fuel burn. I am building a Digitool so should be able to monitor various engine functions including O2 sensor.

Or is changing the idle values foolish and I should just take my van in to the dealer for an official adjustment / test, as Bentley describes.
