Subject: dreaded GL5 tranny oil
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I just found out my mechanic friend - trustworthy but not specialized in VW's - changed my tranny oil last June and used GL5. He used a synthetic supposedly good for 200k miles. I have read the warnings about the problems with GL5 (was it sulfur compounds which attack bronze components?), but don't know if that is also true of synthetic GL5 as with dino GL5. Any knowledge out there, and advice about whether I should get this stuff out ASAP and replace it with the beloved Redline MT90? Or if I am ok to wait til warm weather?

Thanks, Jim Creech 87 Westy GL, 2.1
