Could it be that the 300 mile per tank person is using a 22 gallon tank?

The best I've done with my '85 Westy 1.9L/automatic is 18 mpg on the highway cruising in relatively flat country at 60-65 mph or about 270 miles to the tank (but I'm not brave enough to go that far!). I've heard of non-Westy's getting 22-23 mpg on the highway.

<< Hi Jeff, I've had a 90 GL country homes conversion, P/S, automatic, with 205/70s on alloy rims, since new. I don't think I've ever got more than 260 miles out of a tank and by that time I've pumped in close to 15 gals. - i.e. running on fumes. I've even coasted into the gas station a couple of times (once managing to swipe the side of the van in my haste to get to the correct side of the pump before momentum gave out!). I just rejoined the list and didn't see the post you mentioned, so if someone is getting 300 miles from a tank I want to find out how!
