I posted the original message about 300 miles out of a tank of gas. I have a
1987 Wolfsburg Camper with a 2.1l and a manual transaxle. It doesn't have
power steering but has air conditioning which is on 99% of the time. I'm
running Bridgestone 185/14R light truck tires with 39 psi in the front and
48 psi in the rear. I typically get between 18 and 19 mpg in combination
city and highway driving, I did a little better on that tank since it was
all highway and I didn't use the AC for half of the trip. BTW it was still
running at the pump. I usually go no more than 250 miles on a tank of gas
and am religious about setting the trip odometer at each fill up.

P/S, automatic, with 205/70s on alloy rims, since new.
I don't think I've ever got more than 260 miles out
of a tank and by that time I've pumped in close to 15
gals. - i.e. running on fumes. I've even coasted into
the gas station a couple of times (once managing to
swipe the side of the van in my haste to get to the
correct side of the pump before momentum gave out!).
I just rejoined the list and didn't see the post you
mentioned, so if someone is getting 300 miles from a
tank I want to find out how!
