When my van blew the engine in Clinton, OK ( and that really is between anywhere and nowhere) I rented a u-haul truck and auto transport trailer. I put my gear from the van into the truck, trailered the van, and drove straight to Memphis, then south to Birmingham, AL. Cost me about a grand. Pulling the trailer with the Van on it was not a problem. It handled well, so well in fact that it was easy to let the speed slip up on me.

If you have the time, and a rig to pull the transport, do the job yourself. If you have not done this sort of thing before, it will take you a few miles to really get the feel of it, but it's do-able.

BTW, I loaded my van on the transport trailer backwards. Just seemed to rid better that way. No other reason.
