Depends,

This could me European specification engines or it could mean an engine sold by Eurospec in California.

Generally European engines have less pollution controls that US engines. Until about 1986 Canada got a lot of European engines in some VW models. Usually this means a few more HP. For example the 1985 VW Cabriolet in North America is 90HP while the same engine code in Europe in 95HP due to the omission of the catalytic converter.

If you are talking T3 engines... there are quite a few European engines that we never got (even in Canada!). Three examples are the 1.9L carbureted (60hp) and the 1.6 Turbo Diesel (68hp) and the 2.1L high compression ratio (112hp).

Okay, so this has been bugging me for a bit. What exactly is a Eurospec engine? What are the differences?

I'd like to compare the pluses and minuses between a US spec and a Euro. Any ideas?

TIA,
