Has anyone taken a look at the ad at http://ep.com/js/mi/c0/n0/984930.html?? It looks interesting but I am wondering if list members with more experience than I with this sort of vehicle think the price is fair. Dreaming of driving back from CA to MA next summer with my girlfriend, I am seriously thinking of making an offer. Woody, In California a Westfalia Syncro with 65k miles would go for about 25,000. I know this is not a Westfalia, but the Adventure Wagon in, from what I hear, the finest conversion money can buy. In my opinion, this is either the deal of the century OR there is something VERY wrong. If you want it you should act FAST... but definitely have it checked out first.... there are several expensive items on syncros that may need replacing: 1 Viscous Coupling. 2. drive shaft 3. transmission 4. leaking head gaskets (all vanagons) visit www.vanagon.com and read the article... buying a vanagon... it would seem that the 65,000 miles would mean that these things SHOULD be okay... but if not the total could cost another 10k depending on how they are repaired.... also, take it to a dealer and ask for a print out of its service history.... pay particular attention to the mileage of each service... if you see one with a mileage of 140,000 miles beware.... sometimes odometers are replaced you know :) Bill |
