For those Volks in the New York City area here is a rare chance to see the wonderfully silly French camping van movie "Traffic" (not to be confused with the soon-to-be-released Hollywood product of same name) at the American Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NY. From the museum program: "TRAFFIC 1971, 96 mins. With Maria Kimberly. In this sardonic road movie, Mr. Hulot travels from Paris to Amsterdam to premiere his companyıs latest gadget-laden camping vehicle. Hilarious highway situations ensue, culminating in a disastrous multi-car, domino-effect collision akin to Godardıs pile-up in Weekend. In the lyrical ending, Hulotıs signature umbrella unfurls in a field of rainbow-colored umbrellas." This car-centric, thoughtful masterpiece by Jacques Tati will be playing on Saturday, December 23 and again on Sunday, December 31. Schedule and info at: <http://www.ammi.org> Or, look for it in the foreign section of your best video shop. Cheers, Alan NYC |
