Subject:      87 No Start Update and Dumb Question

My 87 Wolfsburg now starts - with some embarrassment on my part I note she just needed a tune-up.  However, I wonder if timing needs adjustment?  It doesn't idle when I first start her up and it's cold - I have to press the accelerator to get her to run at all.  Once I've gone a block or so idle is fine.  If it's timing, can I do it myself?
