If we are talking about the key that opens the water tank filler on the side
of the vanagon I had one made at a locksmith for $15.  I just removed
the filler and dropped it off (the lock).  They said they could make me a
key that would work.  And they did..

them and the keys are no longer avaiable through them!  I guess the eariler
versions had metal keys, and they are history!
