> >I bought the Kirland's about 5k ago and they seem fine. > >I think they good tires for the buy, and they are c rated. Hey these > >aren't SUV's - thank our lucky stars. > > >Most C rated tires have an inadequate load index for a Vanagon >especially a Westy. You need to look at the 'load index' on the >sidewall, not the 'C' rating which has little meaning. >Also, KIrkland tires are available only from Costco - a private members >club. Not everyone can quailfy to be a member. > As I go (occasionally) into my local Costco, I see the lines of people enviously looking at me as I make my way into the hallowed halls of mega discount. Many times people ask me if they can rent my Costco card as they know I AM one of the privliged. I brazenly inform them, that yes, I too, could get my most precious membership pulled out from under me and the source of my 5 lb. tomato sauce cans, if I were to let them use it. They look at me with sad forlorn eyes... I sometimes break down and ask if they would like to split the cost of a ream of Kirkland toilet paper. We make a deal hurridly in the back of my Vanagon (RVC) and I stand in line for the next 45 minutes with a feeling of spreading the Costco joy to my non-member brothers. I do draw the line at bringing someone in with me though. I feel it would be too painful for them to see what they really miss in the 'Temple of Too Much Consumption'. Kirkland Tires? Nah, I don't think so. I can get better prices on tires at my local America Tire Company or WheelWorks. And know at least it's a somewhat trained person putting the tires on and balancing them.

tim o'brien (have a great Friday)
