Seasons Greetings to all!


The speedometer on my latest vanagon has been fluttering all summer and
fall. With the last cold spell, the fluttering stopped and the speedo
operated as smooth as could be. Once the temperature warmed up a bit... it's
back to its old tricks.


I assume there is probably an oil or damping fluid that smooths the movement
of the pointer. If so the cold weather might have thickened the remaining
oil and improved the damping effect.


Has anyone been able to fix a speedometer with this problem? If so is it
possible to clean / re-lube the mechanism to correct for this condition or
am I barking up the wrong tree?


I'd appreciate and advice given on how to fix this condition.
