Subject: Vehicle importation details for Port Hueneme, California
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
This is a reprint of instructions I sent to a fellow listee regarding
importing a Tri-Star from the same port that I brought my 1989 16" SDC a few
days ago. I thought this would be useful to the list in general.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
1- Go to the Wallenius-Willemsen office before you go to the port. They are
at 279 East Hueneme Rd in a mini-mall. This is about two blocks from the port
entrance.
2- Pay your $100 port fees and get all your paperwork stamped. They will
clear you to go to US Customs. Bring cash. They don't take checks or credit
cards. They can be reached at (805) 488-4000.
3- It is Imperative that you make an appointment w/ the Port Director
(Customs Inspector) Christopher King @ (805) 488-8574 prior to your driving
there. He is not always at the port. There is only one Customs Inspector for
the whole port. You cannot get your car out w/o a clearance from him. If you
are importing the Tri-Star for US conversion, you must have all your EPA/DOT
and any bonding paperwork w/ you. The office is around the corner from
Wallenius-Willemsen office. They will direct you when you pay your port fees.
4- Then go to the port office of your carrier (Wallenius-Willemsen in this
case). The US Customs office has a rear exit onto the port itself. Inspector
King will usually allow you to exit that way. He usually inspects the
vehicles before you even arrive. Steve at the Wallenius-Willemsen trailer
office will direct you to your vehicle once he has confirmed that your
paperwork is in order.
5- You drive-out. The End.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
