My experience is 76K miles and still going, on a "made in Germany" water pump. I bought 2, and carry the 2nd one as a spare. I also carry a spare of that short water hose, that goes between the water pump and engine block, as a replacement when the water pump does go. I don't believe the fan belt has to be any tighter than required to prevent slipping. Also, maybe that stop leak coolant additive really does lubricate the water pump? Thanks to all, and Best New Year Wishes! Scott Boise, ID 1984 Vanagon GL 1988 Trooper 1985 Trooper 1985 Polaris Indy snowmobile that came home inside the Vanagon |
