Subject: Cleaning K&N filters ??
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

As some of you may know, I, and my 91 syncro westy, are over here in Egypt. I was out in very sandy/dusty desert for 9 days and even though I cleaned my K&N filter prior to leaving, it is now CLOGGED with oiled sand/dust. I should say to K&N's credit, the van still drives fine.

I have the "recharger" kit and I tried to clean the filter this morning, but it is still clogged with a oily/sandy/dusty residue. I fear that if I continue to use the cleaner fluid from the "recharger" kit that I have, I will use it all up in this ONE cleaning.

Do any of you use any substitute cleaning fluid for your K&N filters?? The Recharger kit warns against using gasoline, or the like, to clean the filter, but I may have to if/when I run out of the K&N cleaner fluid.

I thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of the list as to what you guys do about this. I do NOT have access to more K&N cleaning liquid, at least not easily.

I tried the K&N web page (just says use their stuff) and I keep getting timed out of the archives - I tried)

Thanks, Malcolm Stebbins
