Phil, you can easily transplant the round headlights and grill from a pre-86
Vanagon to a later model with the rectangular lights. You'll have to change
the wiring connectors, but that's pretty easy to do. And the '86 and '87
model years come with chrome bumpers (with a black rubber impact strip).

I plan on buying the more comfortable 87 or newer Westy and taking those
square head lights and grill off and putting the early 80's round
headlights/grill. Will this switch work or did VW change the grill mounts?

I also want to put the chrome bumpers back on with the final touch of the
classic chrome VW hubcaps.
