I mated the engine from the 87 Golf GT to the newly re-bellhoused vanagon transmission today and noticed somthing funny. The engine, which turned relatively easily by hand when seperate, now was considerably harder to turn. It does turn, if you put a rench on the bolt at the end of the crankshaft, but it requires atleast twice the force as before. So my question to the list members who have done similiar conversions, is this normal or is something wrong. My first thought was maybe the input shaft from the diesel trans was maybe bottoming out in the crank. Second question. In the mess of the conversion I can't locate the bolts that went through the engine mounts. A 10 mm bolt slides in easily and has some wiggle room, but a 12mm doesn't go in at all and looks to be only slightly larger then the hole. If someone could look and see if the bolts are 10mm or something else would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave 82 Vanagon Diesel, soon to be Golf powered |
