Subject: Vanagon Vs. Clie; '61 bus
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I recently ran over my Sony Clie (Palm OS PDA) with my Vanagon. Needless to say the Vanagon won, photo at www.251.org/images/clie/badclie_s.jpg, oops. On a positive note the Michelin MXTs were unharmed and should be able to crush any other Palms with ease.

Vanagon: My 87 just passed 170k miles with about 45k on the new motor. Everything seems to be working well. I have a new AFM that will be installed as soon as I weld a CO test point into my S&S header system. The transmission (original, 170k) seems to be getting tired. I switched to Redline MTL a couple years ago that helped shifting while cold. It is now grinding when shifting into 2nd. The new problems started shortly after towing my '61 bus from New Mexico to Missouri when the transmission was at around 165k miles. I am looking into a limited slip or syncro locking diff for the next transmission.

Bus: The '61 is coming along slowly but surely. The motor is all but finished, the brakes are next... The motor is a 40hp, 1200cc, fully balanced, Vanagon 1.1:1 rockers, Type III oil pump, fresh air heat, Solex 30 PICT carb, 40hp oil bath air cleaner and last but not least 6v.
