Derek,

In posting this article, you answered a couple of questions that I was about to ask. I recently brought in the 16" Syncro Double Cab which has these selfsame axles to the US.

I was considering locating another (gas engined) Syncro transaxle with a taller gear ratio to replace the trans in my 1.6 turbodiesel engined Syncro. I now realize that doing so would necessitate reusing the output flanges on my existing trans.

Also come the realization that the axles and CV's will be expensive to replace. I got mightily concerned whilst looking over the engine compartment yesterday. There in plain view were two CV Allen bolts partially screwed in to the drive flanges. I'm glad they didn't go flying off on the way home.

I would certainly count myself as one who would be interested in a cheaper replacement axle. Just not in the very immediate future. Funny thing about buying used trucks from Europe -- they don't finance.
