Subject: 87 GL: One Problem Solved - and a New One
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

1. Thanks to all who responded to my post regarding a no start in sub 20 degree temps - the problem was solved by replacing a weak starter. Started right up at +6 F this morning :-).

2. The new puzzler (rather a continuing one that is becoming more objectionable): An intermittent loss of power. Periodically over the last several months a sudden loss of power would occur. No identifiable set of circumstances, but always cured immediately by the Microsoft solution - switching the ignition off and restarting. The loss of power condition is characterized by misfiring at all speeds, but doesn't die. Horrible gas mileage and a seemingly rich mixture. On the freeway, it will run better at full throttle. The middle half of the throttle is a virtual dead band with the power output actually decreasing sometimes with wider openings until the engine catches at near full throttle.

The new twists are that the loss of power seems to be provoked by sustained heavy engine loads and is not remedied by the restart. However the bus runs fine the next day, at least to work and back.

New wires and AFM.

A possibly related condition: Flooding out a few seconds after a cold start - starts right up in the "clear" mode.

Thanks,

Larry Hensley 88 GL Canton, OH
