<< Learned something new from my garage mechanic yesterday. He talked about a BIG BORE kit that was used to convert the 1.9 to a 2.1. From all of the talk on the list, this would seem to create problems in a lot of areas, most of which would be the ability of the cooling system to handle the extra heat (since the engine doesn't have an oil cooler). I would like to get further inputs on this topic, especially about any BIG BORE kits that are used for converting a 1.9 to a 2.1.

The bore on the 1.9L and 2.1L are the same -- the extra displacement of the 2.1 comes from the stoke. I've heard rumblings of big bore kits that will increase the displacement to 2.5L but have never seen one or heard of anybody that actually has used one. I suspect any such kit would be very expensive since there isn't much demand. While you might be able to get a little more power out of a wbx going this route to have anything remotely reliable you would have to out-Lilley Robert with full balancing, coatings, etc..
