Subject: Starter Electrical Connection Corrosion
Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII

Been reading a few complaints lately regarding starters not responding to the ignition switch. It happened to me last nite, after work, hit the key, and nothing, except the buzzing of the fuel pump. With flashlight and screwdriver in hand, I crawled, under the van to jump it with the screwdriver. Looking up to the connections, I saw a vast amount of salt corrosion, on the terminals. Crazy thing is, that I just put the starter in the beast, a month ago, and had cleaned the terminals and coated them with dielectric grease. It seems the salt off the road, that is being thrown off the wheel ate right through the dielectric stuff. So, Saturday, I am going to re-clean the terminals, re grease the terminals, and add a rubber flap, in the wheel well, to shroud the starter, from the salt wash off the tire and wheel. I have a couple of old semi truck mud flaps laying around, and am going to use a section out of one of them for the wheel well flap. Well see what happens. I can see where this phenomena may be causing a lot of folks starting problems. I will keep the list, abreast of the results.

Later,
