After a whole week of fighting/reinstalling/losing everything because of some bug the fifteen year olds brought into the home computer,I was finally able to start communicating in ethernetland again. Imagine my dismay when I INADVERTENTLY opened the Snow White bug (thinking it was from either my joker brother-in-law or my joker co-worker). ...Only to see, later, up the chain of backlogged v.listmail that it was a virus. Bummer! Norton and N.A.V. aside, I wanted to pull out the remaining hair in my head. Talking to the resident Geek at work assured me that my scalp could remain covered and I would have no need to go postal...my iMac reigns.

One Vanagon note. After a short caving trip in December, I noticed an ominous, pronounced ,occasional knocking in the rear of my '91 (CV jointitis). The most noise came from loose bolts on the outer driver's side hub. But the packing grease was realy hard and black; and two bolts had snapped. At 156+ K I figured it was time for new joints. My local VW gurus recommended just turning the half shafts around (end for end) and repacking the grease. Did that and after nearly 1K miles testing ...no problems. Yahoo! These guys have been working on and driving VWs since the early sixties. Johnny had a bus with over 500 K with the original CV joints and original transmission fluid. -- Stephen Steele Chillicothe OH '91 Caravelle Hans (158K) '84 Westfalia Fritz or Sunny? (113K)
