On a different side of the coin, as a consumer I try to never use UPS. THis is because of the policy instituted by the local UPS office where I live.

They will not leave any package unless signed for by an adult (they no longer accept the yellow sticky notes that you can sign and leave on the door.) This means that if you are one of the folks that have to work for a living, you have to either go to their distribution center to pick up the package - a half hour away in my case, or reroute the package to somewhere that someone can sign for it - which will add 4 days to the delivery time, provided that they don't loose the instructions to reroute (which has happened to me twice.)

Plus, my experience is that a package is much more likely to be damaged by UPS than with either Fedex or USPS.

So the shipping options that a vendor has tends to be a factor when I select who to buy from. For me, UPS means extra hassle and more chance of damage - and generally a higher cost than the USPS.
