Dana: Do you have a part number for this rubber valve cover gasket? I've always used cork valve cover gaskets and I usually have seepage onto the intake manifold, no matter how careful I am in torquing. The rubber valve cover gasket would probably be a big help.

I noticed the last time I purchased an oil pan gasket for my '82 Westy Diesel from the VW Dealer, he gave me a rubber gasket. He said the rubber gasket was specific to the Vanagon Diesel. I discovered from Bentley that the torque value for the oil pan bolts on the Vanagon is 7 ft-lbs versus 15 ft-lbs for the oil pan on the Rabbit. I had previously used the cork gasket I had from a Rabbit rebuild gasket kit. I'm pretty sure that the static oil level in the pan is above the gasketed joint between the oil pan and block on the left side of the engine.
