Gads. The other option would be to use a stud that is 10mm on one side and 8mm on the other. Easier to find the tap and does not require the purchase of keen-serts. I've done both. Both work well as long as the old hole is not terribly rounded out, in which case you coudl not tap it 10mm.

Right-o! IIRC the 8mm x 1.25 Keen-sert requires a 12mm x 1.25 tap. I could trudge through the snow out to the garage to check, but... The 'odd-ball' bit comes from the standard taps in a metric t&d set being 12mm x 1.50 and 12mm x 1.75.
