I have replaced a 2awg cables with a 0awg for some stuff in my lab. The crux of the situation was getting good connectors on the ends. I ended up having to machine a connector and soldering it in place. So if you decide to replace your starter wire (not sure why though...) with a bigger one you first may want to track done some big connectors.
