Volks,
90 Vanagon Carat has been in a recurrent cycle of stalling to the point
of being barely driveable, putting in a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel
injector cleaner and after 10 or so miles all probs are solved: to it
happening all over again say 400 miles later (5-6 weeks of wifes
sub-urban commuting w/kids).
I have:
1) changed fuel filter(s): only temporary relief of symptoms (1 mile)
then back to normal
I thought crud in tank
2) installed replaceable element gas filter: problem remains as
described above
3) made wife use only branded Chevron or other branded gasoline
* System is status quo w/TECHRON, I have tried other brands of FI
cleaner, resolving the stalling each and every time it is put in the
tank
* I envision some wierd gasoline re-mix here in our area fouling the
injector tips exceedingly fast, but this is ridiculous! My 87 7
passenger I sold to a friend had no such probs and does not now have
probs in this area.
Questions: Did VW change injector tips in later model vanagons? Smaller
orifices?
Anyone got any ideas. Carat has 67K (yes I said right, 67K) orig miles,
I will plug wires, cap, rotor and platiums next weekend and continue
troubleshooting.
Could this be a weak fuel pump?? I have no reason to suspect this.
Is our SE Texas reformulated gasoline this hard on my Fuel Injection?
Anyone else have this prob?
