What direction should the clip holding in this sensor face? Since the idea of facing is ambiguous, let's say that given the U shape of the clip, where should the bottom part of the U be?

In the manual, it shows the bottom on the engine side. On my '87 the bottom of the U faces the firewall (180 degrees off) making it hard to grasp and pull off. Another list member said he pulled the clip off by pulling up. That is, the bottom of the U was at the top of the sensor.

I'm asking if any of this matter at all. The problem as I see it for now is that it's a bit difficult to pull the clip off if it's facing forward. There's not much room there. Is one direction (perhaps the one shown in the manual) correct.
