Dear Ben T,

I understand that 6,849 T3 Syncro Double Cabs (Types 247 and 248) were built buy Steyr-Puch and that VWof South Africa didn't build any (only Types 252, 254 and 256). However, I do not know how many T3 Syncro Double Cabs were of the 16" variety.

Here in Australia all VW Caravelle GL Syncros had the little Puch badge on the left side (or port side) just under the front passenger door. These vehciles were all just ordinary Syncros with a rear diff dock and just a few with front diff locks also. The 16" Syncro was never marketed in Australia although two were privately imported for a major local rally (1991 "Wynn's Safari") one of which was a Double Cab and this vehicle after much abuse now lives in Perth. I would love to get hold of one of those beautiful Puch badges for my Syncro which is a plain windowless panel van.

Regards,

Simon Glen, Toowoomba, Australia 1992 VW T3 Transporter Syncro van 1968 VW 411
