i have used a canoe carrying kit that I got at my local sporting goods store. Basically it was made up of 4 blocks of high density foam with a notch cut out of it on one side. You just put the notch over the edge of the canoe and rest it on the top, and tie the front and rear down with a rope. I think the kit was like $10 5 years ago. HTH.
