The clutch pedal seemed mushy and I was having trouble finding gears, so I tried bleeding my clutch slave cylinder. Both the master and slave were bone dry on the outside. Bleeding brought the pedal back to life. The slave is reachable from the engine compartment. I had my son work the pedal while I opened and closed the bleeder. The reservoir level was not low, but I suspect it could have been at one time. The PO had the brakes serviced recently before I bought it and the level could have dropped low enough to cause clutch problems. Did not notice any clutch problems before this winter. I have had this '85 Westy for about 1 1/2 years. If you are having shifting problems, check out your clutch hydraulics. The shift linkage is another story... Jay |
