I'll second Bill's recommendation of the Bosch Fuel Injection book. It is extremely thorough and well written, and can be understood by anyone with a high school diploma. Well, maybe. ;-)

I have found it indispensable for trouble shooting. I recently used information I found there to set my CO so it would pass emissions. That saved paying someone $40, and paid for the book.

For those who are curious, the book states that a hot O2 sensor should generate about a half a volt at the proper mixture setting (lambda = 1) at idle. Now you can use a voltmeter to at least approximate your CO setting! This info is not in the Bentley, they tell you to measure the CO with an analyzer, something most of us don't have.
